The company was promoted in 1970 by Mr. D.J. Parekh a Technocrat with B.Sc. (Engg) and AMIE from London Independent India’s first Heavy Electricals manufacturing Plant in Government Sector was located in Bhopal a central city in India manufacturing the Switch gear, Transformer, Rotating electrical machines –motors and Generators – for Transportation and Industrial sector and the Generators for Hydro and Steam turbines.
This plant, which was set up with the collaboration with the Associated Electrical industries (Later GEC) U.K., had started manufacturing activities meeting the requirements of Central and State Government utilities.
Copper Strips Pvt. Ltd, was ideally suited to meet the copper component requirement of this vast industry. A humble beginning was made in a small way. The company took strength from the knowledge and experience of its founder, Mr. D.J. Parekh and the technological requirement of the customer, who were building the engineering foundation with their UK collaborator. This partnership grew in confidence in the ability of Copper Strips Pvt. Ltd. to also extend its operation to other units of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd at Haridwar, Jhansi and Hyderabad. Copper Strips Pvt. Ltd. became a Principal supplier to these large manufacturing units on its strength of meeting the required manufacturing and quality standards. Copper Strips Pvt. Ltd. Also look initiative to develop and manufacture several complicated and typical copper components, with a collaborative approach, for the first time in India.
With the opening of Indian power sector to private sector, copper strips was a reliable supplier of copper component to several major companies like ABB, AREVA, CROMPTON GREAVES, SIEMENS, SUZLON, VATECH HYDRO etc. Meanwhile copper components were also supplied to Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasi, Chittaranjan Locomotive Works, and the Zonal Indian Railways Industries also Sourced the requirements from Copper Strips Pvt. Ltd.
A small and humble beginning made in 1970 has now become a trusted partner for a number of blue chip companies in both Government and Private sector.
